Pink Water Lily

Pink Water Lily was inspired by a photo I took at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. I like to paint and photograph water and water plants. What is interesting about the picture is that in the photograph there is a lot of indigo blue water. I decided to paint the entire canvas bright magenta as an underpainting. IIn addition to the pink flowers I wanted bits of the pink to show through the leaves to contrast with the greens in the leaves. After painting the leaves I liked the magenta ground, so I left it that way instead of painting the water over it.
