Quarter Past Twelve
Oil painting on cotton canvas.

Flowers, as subjects of Dutch still life compositions epitomize feminine passivity, often connotations to the feminine archetypes of passivity, endurance, and acceptance. In this series of works, through symbolism and surrealism, I explore the parallels between flowers and feminism. In my painting process, the arrangement of floral subjects is an anomaly in itself. Like a “still life” suspended in time, it invites a direct confrontation between the viewer and the flowers. These blooms take on a metaphorical role, they embody not only beauty but delving deep into their essence to unearth a captivating world of grotesque imperfection. In this journey, the flowers come to life, not as idealized, pristine specimens, but emerge as individuals, each with its own narrative.
