La Jolla Rivals

I captured these feisty sea lions during a visit to La Jolla and knew I'd have to paint them! I created this artwork with watercolors on a wood panel prepped with 3 coats of watercolor ground. I used several methods to achieve the white splashes of water, including masking fluid, lifting, scrubbing, and white gouache. My hope is that when someone views this artwork, they can image the barking and dynamic movement of the seals that I was fortunate enough to witness in real life.
