Soaring at Sky Pond

I created this painting as a wedding gift for my son and his bride, October 2023. I wanted to capture the memory of an adventure we had together. Sky Pond is located high up at 9240 ft in Rocky Mountain National Park. It is a climb to get to this upper glacier pond at the top. This 9+ mile trip is a steep 1647 elevation climb through forests and alpine creeks, waterfalls and glacier ponds. The hike is beauitful! You cross a large 30 ft. waterfall and actually walk through part of it! Then you come across the stunning Lake of Glass. Finally you make you come to the final ascent which turns into a scramble toward sky pond. The first glimpse of sky pond is one that takes you breath away. Its a spectacular place. Across from the lake you see the 13,153 foot Taylor Peak and towards the south is 13,208 Powell Peak. I wanted to capture this magical place in remembrance of the hike we shared as a family and also I know they also love this place as they have climbed it together.
