Sailing into the Sunset

Sailing into the Sunset
Inspiration:
Following the sun as it descends below the horizon,
waiting for no one as we chase the setting sun,
an end to a days journey as land fades into the distance.

I painted this scene in my studio from a photograph I took while sitting on the beach in Seattle.
The photo guided me with inspiration yet I changed up the composition and enlarged the foreground focal sailboat.

I paint with archival oils on a gessoed birch panel. This hard surface is my preference because for me the brush stokes and palette knife work lay down more smoothly than other flexible substrates. I finished this painting with a 3" dark wood frame enhanced with gold inner trim.
