Begun as a plein air sketch in Calafia State Park, in San Clemente, CA, this painting evolved as a dark silhouette against the billowing clouds. It was the movement of this group of trees against the grandeur of the clouds that first attracted me, particularly their unified shape and the contrast of that dark shape against the light of the clouds.
