Afternoon, Golden Back Bay

For the Laguna Plein Air Painting Invitational this October, I wanted to create a series of 4 paintings for the event that evoked 4 times of day. This was my painting for "afternoon," plein air from the shores of the marshlands known as Back Bay, near Newport Beach, CA. Color-wise, the painting is composed rainbow-like from the golden light at the left to the violet shadows at the right. It is rather abstract in its final statement, but completely based on my plein air experience in that location.
