This was actually inspired by a picture I took of a highway somewhere in western Montana. I was intrigued by the light touching the tops of the trees on the ridge. I started painting the highway scene, but decided to head off in a more natural direction, so I changed it to the small pond in the foreground of the painting, and changed up the middle ground and mountains in the background as well. The line of golden sunlight on the trees remains the point of greatest interest, however. As with most of my paintings, my medium is Alkyd.
