The Mona Lisa Tica

The Mona Lisa Tica, "Tica" being a colloquial adjective that refers to Costa Ricans, is an oil painting on linen, inspired by the timeless masterpiece, The Mona Lisa, by Leonardo da Vinci. In this endeavor, my goal is to capture the essence of the iconic Mona Lisa, while infusing it with the vibrant and unique spirit of Costa Rica. Since the original painting of The Mona Lisa represents a background area of Tuscany, I wanted to show in the background, a perspective of the National Theater of Costa Rica and to enhance more mystery, the game of lights in the background that unites the colors of the shadows projected on the model, who is Costa Rican. Paying special attention to the positions of her hands, the subtle and delicate smile that adorns her lips and her deep and enigmatic gaze, I seek to translate these defining features into my own interpretation of The Mona Lisa as a Costa Rican representation.
